MD, PhD is Professor and Senior Consultant in Pediatrics. She is Chair of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology at Umeå University hospital, in Umeå, Sweden. In addition to her vast clinical expertise, she leads a multidisciplinary research group and has expertise in clinical trials exploring the role of nutrition in pediatric allergic conditions. She has authored over 80 peer-reviewed research and review papers and contributed to several books and opinion papers. She has been invited as plenary symposium speaker at congresses organized by the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and the World Allergy Organization. She is one of two founding directors of the prospective epidemiological birth cohort study NorthPop, aiming at recruiting 10 000 mother-child pairs to explore the role of environmental exposures in the onset of inflammatory non-communicable diseases in childhood. She leads the Restoration of Microbiota in Newborns clinical trial, which is the first randomized controlled trial that includes both vaginal and fecal microbiota in the seeding process of Cesarean delivered neonates. Christina West has on-going international research collaborations in the fields of nutrition, immunology, food allergy and microbiome.
